Summer adventures are more fun when your pet feels their best. Preventive care is one of the most important ways to protect your pet from seasonal risks and ensure they stay healthy year-round, especially here in Louisiana where our hot temps and pests hang around longer than most other places. 

Year-round prevention, even for indoor-only pets, remains one of the best ways to protect your pet from preventable diseases and discomfort. Staying consistent with monthly preventives is especially important during peak mosquito, flea, and tick season.

Pool Days, Road Trips & Heat Safety Tips

Summer fun is better when pets stay safe. Here are a few seasonal reminders to help your pets beat the Louisiana heat:

• Never leave pets in parked vehicles. Even a few minutes in the summer heat can quickly become dangerous.

• Hydration matters. Always provide fresh, cool water — especially during and after outdoor activity.

• Be cautious of hot pavement. Asphalt and concrete can burn paw pads during the hottest parts of the day. If you cannot hold the back of your hand on the pavement for longer than 7 seconds, then it is too hot for your pet’s feet. Early morning or evening walks are safest.

• Know the signs of heat exhaustion. Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or weakness require immediate attention. Please don’t ever hesitate to let our team know if you have a concern. 

• Keep pets protected during travel. Secure carriers, updated ID tags, and a microchipped pet helps keep them safe with you on road trips and vacations, or even when you are away from them.  

• Be cautious around summer foods. Cookout favorites like corn cobs, grapes, onions, alcohol, and fatty foods can be dangerous for pets.

• Schedule grooming appointments early. Summer appointments tend to book quickly, especially during peak travel months.

From daycare fun and Play & Learn sessions to our Pawsitive Puppy Playdates designed specifically for young pups to safely build confidence and social skills, there’s something for every stage of your dog’s development. Open 7 days a week, our doggie daycare is perfect for busy schedules, summer errands, or helping energetic pups burn off extra energy.

We also host themed Pawties throughout the year — including splash days, holiday celebrations, and special summer events complete with photos, treats, and supervised fun.

Every dog completes a three-day trial to help ensure safe and positive playgroups based on temperament, size, and play style.

Play & Learn at The Playground:

Although we play with manners in mind, some pals may need a little extra support, and our team is here to help! Our Play & Learn sessions combine fun, structure, and one-on-one attention to help reinforce positive behaviors during your pup’s daycare experience.

What is Play & Learn?

This service includes one-on-one training sessions focused on foundational skills like:

• “Sit”

• Leash walking

• Building confidence and good daycare manners

Who Can Attend?

Pups who have:

• Completed their 3-day Playground trial

• Met all daycare requirements, including:

  • Current vaccines & parasite prevention

  • Microchip identification

  • Spayed/neutered status

Cost & Frequency

• Two sessions offered weekly — every Tuesday & Thursday

• $15 per session

• First come, first serve availability

We typically recommend one Play & Learn session per week per pup, but our team can tailor the experience to fit your dog’s individual needs and goals. Ask our team about adding Play & Learn to your pup’s daycare routine!
