Endoscopy & Laparoscopy

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic tool that allows the veterinarian to gain a full visual of the affected area and collect samples for biopsies. This procedure is performed with an endoscope, which is a long, flexible tube with a viewing device or camera on the end that is used to examine the affected area.

Laparoscopy is a type of minimally invasive surgery that allows surgeons to make small incisions. Because surgeons can make smaller incisions, recovery time is shorter and the procedure results in less pain than traditional surgery. Laparoscopy is one of the most effective ways of diagnosing internal health issues in both dogs and cats.

Common Veterinary Surgeries Performed

We offer an array of veterinary surgeries here at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center, ranging from routine spays and neuters to more serious surgeries.

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

This procedure allows the veterinarian to get a full view of the esophagus, stomach, and the upper part of the small intestine. This is used as a diagnostic tool and as a method for collecting samples for biopsies.

This procedure is used to examine and diagnose issues of the colon as well as collecting necessary biopsies. If your pet is having issues “going,” the vet is likely to perform a colonoscopy.

Veterinarians use this procedure to acquire samples from the respiratory tract and examine the area for any issues. If your pet has respiratory issues, your vet may opt to perform a bronchoscopy.

A cystoscopy is typically performed once bloodwork or ultrasounds have not yielded results. If your pet suffers from frequent urinary tract infections or otherwise has difficulty urinating, your vet will perform this procedure.

Rhinoscopies are performed on pets who have issues specific to the nose and throat. This non-invasive procedure allows the vet to collect samples and directly examine your pet’s nasal passages.

A vaginoscopy is used to examine the reproductive tract of female pets. It can be used to monitor a pet’s fertility in addition to being used as a diagnostic tool when a health issue is present.

Spays & Neuters

Spays and neuters can also be performed with laparoscopic surgery. The benefits of opting for a laparoscopic spay or neuter for your pet are a faster recovery time, less trauma, and less pain.
