Some human medications can be safely used to treat pets. If you are unable to reach a veterinarian immediately, using human medication can be very helpful. If a medication is not listed on this guide, do not use it on your pet. Wait until you are able to bring your pet in for an examination from a vet.

Benadryl
This medication can treat allergies, itching and other allergy-related symptoms.
Canine Dosage: ½-1 mg per pound every 8 hours. Maximum dosage is 2 mg per pound.
Feline Dosage: ½ mg per pound every 8 hours. Benadryl can cause excitability in cats.
Dramamine
Dramamine reduces motion sickness in pets.
Canine Dosage: 2–4 mg per pound every 8 hours
Feline Dosage: 2–4 mg per pound every 8 hours
Hydrogen Peroxide 3%
You can use hydrogen peroxide 3% to induce vomiting after accidental ingestion of poisons.
Canine Dosage: 1 ml per pound up to 45 pounds. Repeat after 15 minutes if your dog has not vomited. Do not exceed 3 times.
Feline Dosage: use of hydrogen peroxide is not recommended for cats.
Kaopectate
This medication relieves diarrhea
Canine Dosage: 1 ml per pound ever 2 hours
Feline Dosage: 1 ml per pound every 2 hours
Mineral Oil
This medication relieves constipation
Canine Dosage: up to 4 teaspoons daily
Feline Dosage: up to 2 teaspoons daily
Canned Pumpkin
This medication relieves constipation
Canine Dosage: 2-3 teaspoons every 8-12 hours
Feline Dosage: 1-2 teaspoons every 8-12 hours
Pepto Bismol
Pepto Bismol relieves diarrhea, vomiting and gas
Canine Dosage: 1 teaspoon per 5 pounds or 1 caplet per 20 pounds every 6 hours. This medication is not safe for long-term use
Feline Dosage: this medication is not recommended for cats
Robitussin DM
This medication can relieve coughing and hacking
Canine Dosage: 1 teaspoon per 20 pounds every 8-12 hours
Feline Dosage: use of Robitussin DM is not recommended for cats
Zyrtec
This medication can relieve allergies
Canine Dosage: 1 mg per kilogram can be given twice daily
Feline Dosage: ½ of a 10 mg tablet can be given once daily
